SPANISH CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Conversational Spanish 1

Grades 5th-12th

In this interactive course, students will learn the elements of Spanish and develop conversational communication skills through a variety of personalized exercises and activities. We'll be focusing on five important areas of foreign language study: comprehension, listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and cover the present tense of -AR and -ER verbs.

By the end of this beginner's Spanish class, students should be able to speak Spanish in full sentences.

Classes are 1 hour in length and meet once a week for a total of 23 hours of live online instruction. Outside of class, students should expect to spend 15-30 minutes a day studying and completing homework assignments.

We use a variety of resources including videos and the book Getting Started with Spanish (affiliate link). Book will be ordered by the customer. 

COST: $300 + $22 for curriculum (not including S&H)

Conversational Spanish 2

Grades 6th-12th

Students continue learning the elements of Spanish and developing communication skills through a variety of personalized exercises and activities. By the end of this course, students will have completed their textbook started in the Conversational Spanish 1 class and have added more words to their vocabulary allowing them to expand their knowledge of the Spanish language.  They'll continue to cover more present tense forms of -AR and -ER verbs.

Prerequisite: Conversational Spanish 1. 

Classes are 1 hour in length and meet once a week for a total of 23 hours of live online instruction.

We use a variety of resources including videos and the book Getting Started with Spanish (affiliate link)

High School Spanish 1 

Grades 8th-12th

In this full-year class, students will attain Proficiency Level 1 in five basic skills: comprehension, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Besides learning basic vocabulary and grammar, students will learn about a variety of topics that will allow them to communicate with others about their family, their classes, school life, and various activities. They'll learn how to ask questions, how to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in Spanish, tell time, talk about the days and months, describe things, and learn about various professions and trades.

 

We'll cover Chapters 1-12 of their book and learn the present tense of -AR, -ER, -IR verbs, the verb ser, expressions with estar, and uses of ser and estar. 

Through culture-related videos, students will gain insights into well-known and lesser-known aspects of Hispanic culture. By actively engaging with a Spanish immersive drama, they'll also learn vocabulary beyond their regular lessons as they follow a journalist caught up in a mysterious situation.

Prerequisite: None.  This class is worth 1 high school credit.

Classes are 1.5 hours in length and meet once a week for a total of 43.5 hours of live online instruction. Outside of class, students should expect to spend 30 to 40 minutes per day completing homework and studying.

Quizzes and tests will be provided and graded by me.

We use a variety of resources including the books Spanish is Fun Book 1 and its Companion Workbook (Cuaderno de ejercicios). Books will be ordered by the customer.

COST: $460 divided into 2 payments + $35 for curriculum & workbook (not including S&H)

High School Spanish 2 

Grades 9th-12th

In this full-year class, students will continue to attain proficiency in five basic skills: comprehension, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Besides learning basic vocabulary and grammar, students will learn about a variety of topics including body parts, weather and seasons, food, party, clothes, animals, and words related to a home.

In Chapters 13-24 of their book, they'll continue to cover the present tense of new -AR, -ER, -IR verbs, including the past; preterit tense form. They'll also learn prepositions. 

Through culture-related videos, students will continue to learn aspects of Hispanic culture. By actively engaging with Spanish immersive videos, they'll also learn vocabulary beyond their regular lessons.

Prerequisite: High School Spanish 1.  This class is worth 1 high school credit.

Classes are 1.5 hours in length and meet once a week for a total of 43.5 hours of live online instruction. Students should dedicate 30 to 40 minutes per day outside of class for homework completion and studying.

Quizzes and tests will be provided and graded by me.

We'll use a variety of resources including the books Spanish is Fun Book B and Cuaderno de ejercicios (Book B workbook). Books will be ordered by the customer.

COST: $460 divided into 2 payments + $27 for curriculum & workbook (not including S&H)

High School Spanish 3 

Grades 10th-12th

In this full-year class, students will continue to attain proficiency in five basic skills: comprehension, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. 

We'll cover Chapters 1-10 of their book which will include: interrogative words, stem-changing verbs, negative & affirmative expressions, formal & informal commands, adjectives & adverbs, reflexive verbs, passive SE, preterit tense, imperfect tense, imperfect & preterit tenses compared, demonstrative adjectives & pronouns, direct-object pronouns, and indirect-object pronouns.

 

Students will also watch Spanish immersive videos and read Spanish written readers.

Prerequisite: High School Spanish 2.  This class is worth 1 high school credit.

Classes are 1.5 hours in length and meet once a week for a total of 43.5 hours of live online instruction. Students should dedicate 30 to 40 minutes per day outside of class for homework completion and studying..

Quizzes and tests will be provided and graded by me.

Take a sneak peek at one of my Spanish classes

I make learning a foreign language fun for my students. Watch the video below as students from the Conversational Spanish 1 class participate in the Story Builder activity.  

 

They work together as a group to form a long sentence in Spanish using vocabulary they've learned in class. Students enjoy this activity because they like to challenge themselves to see how long of a sentence they can put together.
